Building a Rail Network to transform travel across South East Queensland
South East Queensland in Australia is growing, placing increasing demands on the infrastructure that keeps people and communities connected.

At the heart of South East Queensland’s rail network, a single inner-city river crossing had become a significant constraint on the ability to run more trains and expand services.
Cross River Rail is changing that.
The project was developed to add a second rail path through the center of Brisbane, creating capacity for up to 24 trains in each direction and allowing services to run more frequently across the wider South East Queensland network. By removing a critical bottleneck, the project was designed to improve network reliability, provide better access to jobs, education and other destinations, and create greater potential for future rail improvements as the region continues to grow.
Delivering a more modern rail network, however, depends on more than the infrastructure passengers can see. It also requires the systems and components beneath it to work together safely and efficiently.
CRH Companies Infrastructure Products AU and Civilmart are supporting those works with electrical pits, drainage channels, Turnouts and Blocks and custom precast infrastructure engineered around the specific requirements of the rail network. The project required precast pits and access chambers capable of accommodating different depths, pipe penetrations, load requirements and site conditions, as well as walls and floors. Rather than relying on extensive fabrication at the project site, Civilmart engineered components as practical click-and-connect solutions designed to arrive ready for efficient installation.
Civilmart also worked with project designs to identify alternative solutions where appropriate, helping simplify construction and reduce costs while maintaining required performance.
As South East Queensland prepares for continued growth, Cross River Rail is creating the capacity for a more connected and higher-frequency transport network. For CRH, the project demonstrates a broader role in infrastructure modernization: turning complex project requirements into practical solutions that help customers build the systems growing communities will depend on.
