The Challenge

For a major new biopharmaceutical facility in North‑West Romania – an industry where strict compliance, high‑precision execution and predictable timelines are mandatory – CRH delivered a fully connected structural and soil‑solutions package.

The customer was in need of a partner with design and build expertise for complex, high-precision projects and a safer, simpler and more reliable design pathway after the customers’ original concept proved too costly and too complex to execute safely on site.

The Solution

Operating as one coordinated team, CRH companies Baulemente, Ferrobetan and Romcim worked together, demonstrating our connected portfolio in action, to deliver a structural precast and soil stabilization plan that created the foundations for this major industrial build.

The companies aligned their expertise across both our materials and infrastructure businesses, to create a simpler, safer and more reliable project plan for the entire building structure, from design to assembly, which adhered to all regulatory requirements.

The redesigned precast roof system addressed fire‑safety and load requirements while reducing execution risk and simplifying site operations by moving works to the factory floor meaning fewer site operations, fewer variables and a clean installation process.

CRH’s scale and footprint across Romania provided a major advantage to the Project, with the ability to coordinate production across three Romanian precast plants – Sibiu, Deva, and Orade – alleviating potential bottlenecks and capacity issues.

Alongside the optimized precast system, CRH used Romcim binders for in‑situ soil stabilization, to increase soil bearing capacity and help the contractor reduce excavation and replacement works – bringing additional predictability and value to the Project.

Delivered on time and in full regulatory compliance, the Biopharma project demonstrates CRH’s capability to serve high‑regulation industries through integrated design, coordinated production and strong customer partnership.
